Q: We have purchased a horse. What do we have to do?
A: Within 7 days of the purchase or at least 24 hours before your horse is entered for a race or trial (whichever is earlier), lodge a Named Racehorse Transfer of Ownership online at myhorseracing.horse or via a paper form here.
Q: We have decided to retire our horse from racing. What do we have to do?
A: Within 7 days of making that decision, the managing owner must lodge a Retirement/Death of Horse Notification online at myhorseracing.horse or via a paper form. For NSW domiciled horses click here All other states click here Alternatively, you can authorise your horse's trainer to notify Racing Australia for you.
Q: Our horse has died. What do we have to do?
A: Within 24 hours of death, the managing owner must lodge a Retirement/Death of Horse Notification online at myhorseracing.horse or via a paper form.

Q: What is a horse status update?
A: If your horse hasn't had any activity (e.g. nomination to race) recorded with Racing Australia/Principal Racing Authority in 6 consecutive months, your horse's status/location must be updated.
Q: How do we complete a horse status update?
A: Within 7 days of the 6-month mark, the managing owner must lodge a Horse Status Update online at myhorseracing.horse or via a paper form here and make any outstanding notifications/lodgments.
Alternatively, you can authorise your horse's trainer to provide the update for you.
Q: How will we know if we need to provide a status update for our horse?
A: Racing Australia will send reminders to the managing owner at the following times:
- email 7 days before 6-month mark;
- email on day of 6-month mark;
- text message 4 days after 6-month mark.
Q: What happens if we don't provide a status update on time?
A: You may be restricted from transacting with Racing Australia/Principal Racing Authority in relation to any horse you own or breed with (e.g. unable to submit nominations, receive prizemoney).
